Slay the Spire 2 — Divine & Crystal Sphere Guide
The Crystal Sphere is a gambling event in Acts 2 and 3. A fortune-teller offers to reveal your destiny — you pay gold or accept a Debt curse for a set number of tile reveals. Here's everything you need to know to make the right call.
Quick Answer
Almost always take Uncover Future (gold). Gold rewards frequently exceed the entry cost, and Debt is a persistent drain that costs 75 gold to remove. Only consider Payment Plan if you run an Exhaust deck or are critically low on gold.
How the Crystal Sphere Works
When you enter the event, a fortune-teller presents a grid of hidden tiles inside a glowing sphere. You must choose one of two entry options — there is no way to leave without committing.
Each divination attempt lets you flip a tile. You choose between Small Divination (fewer tiles, lower risk) or Big Divination (more tiles at once, higher variance). Whatever you uncover — gold, cards, curses, or penalties — you receive immediately.
You cannot stop mid-event. Once you commit to an entry option, you must use all your divination attempts.
Entry Options: Gold vs Debt
Uncover Future
Recommended54–79 gold
3 divination attempts
Pros
- +No curse added to your deck
- +Gold rewards frequently exceed the entry cost
- +Safe for all deck archetypes
- +No long-term downside
Cons
- −Requires 54–79 gold upfront
- −Fewer reveals than Payment Plan
- −Can still hit penalty tiles
Payment Plan
Debt curse added to deck
6 divination attempts
Pros
- +Double the reveals (6 vs 3)
- +No upfront gold cost
- +More chances at cards and relics
Cons
- −Debt draws during combat lose you 10 gold each time
- −Costs 75 gold at a Merchant to remove
- −Punishes fast-cycling decks hardest
- −Net cost often exceeds the gold option
Understanding Debt
Debt is an unplayable curse card added directly to your deck. It has no positive effect — it only costs you gold when drawn.
−10 gold
lost each time Debt is drawn in combat
75 gold
to remove at a Merchant/Shop
Permanent
stays in deck until removed
Fast-cycling decks (high draw) are hit hardest — Debt can trigger multiple times per run before you reach a shop. The net cost of Payment Plan is often 75+ gold (removal) plus whatever gold you lose before removal.
When to Take Each Option
Take Uncover Future (Gold) when:
- ✓You have 150+ gold — the entry cost is low-risk
- ✓You don't have a shop coming up soon
- ✓You're running a thin/clean deck where curses hurt
- ✓You're mid-to-late run with a strong deck
- ✓You're playing Defect, Regent, or Necrobinder
Consider Payment Plan (Debt) when:
- ▸You're running an Exhaust deck (can exhaust Debt as fuel)
- ▸You're below ~60 gold and genuinely can't afford the entry cost
- ▸You're early enough to hit a shop before Debt drains much
- ▸You're playing Silent with discard/exhaust synergies
- ▸You need more card reward chances for a specific build
Best Choice by Class
Ironclad
Prefer gold option. Exhaust builds can tolerate Debt (can exhaust it), but most Ironclad decks want clean draws. If you have 150+ gold, Uncover Future is low-risk.
Silent
Best class for Payment Plan. Exhaust synergies and discard mechanics can neutralize Debt. 6 reveals give more chances at card rewards that fuel Sly/discard builds.
Defect
Gold option preferred. Debt is a dead card with no upside for Defect. Orb-focused builds need clean draws.
Regent
Gold option preferred. Stars/Forge builds rely on consistent card cycling — Debt disrupts this.
Necrobinder
Situational. Exhaust builds can leverage Debt as fuel, but Doom setup requires clean draws. Assess your current build before choosing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does 'divine' mean in Slay the Spire 2?
Divining means revealing a hidden tile on the Crystal Sphere grid. Each divination = one tile flip. You pay gold or accept a Debt curse upfront for a set number of flips. Whatever tile you uncover — reward or penalty — you receive immediately.
Where does the Crystal Sphere event appear?
The Crystal Sphere appears in ? (unknown) rooms in Act 2 (Hive) and Act 3 (Glory). It does not appear in Act 1.
Can you skip the Crystal Sphere event?
No — once you enter the event, you must choose one of the two options (gold or Debt). You cannot walk away without committing. The real decision is which option to take, not whether to participate.
What is Debt in STS2?
Debt is an unplayable curse card added to your deck. Every time you draw it during combat, you lose 10 gold at the end of that turn. It stays in your deck permanently until removed. Removal costs 75 gold at a Merchant/Shop.
Is the Crystal Sphere worth it?
Generally yes, if you take the gold option. Gold rewards frequently exceed the 54–79 gold entry cost, and you have a chance at cards or relics. The Debt option is only worth it for Exhaust-focused decks or when you're critically low on gold.
How much gold should I have before divining?
For the gold option, having 150+ gold makes the 54–79 cost low-risk. If you're below 100 gold, consider whether you can afford to lose the entry cost entirely on bad tiles.
What's the difference between Small and Big Divination?
Small Divination reveals fewer tiles per attempt (lower risk, lower reward). Big Divination reveals more tiles simultaneously, increasing both the chance of hitting good tiles and the chance of hitting bad ones.
Early Access Note
STS2 launched March 5, 2026. Some specifics (exact gold costs, full tile pool, grid dimensions) are still being documented. The gold cost range of 54–79 may vary by act or ascension level.
