Colossal Flower Event Guide

The Colossal Flower is a multi-stage risk-reward event in Slay the Spire 2 that appears in Act 2. You'll encounter a massive flower growing atop a mountain of bones, offering you the choice to extract nectar for gold or reach deeper into the flower at the cost of HP. Push far enough, and you can obtain the powerful Pollinous Core relic.

How the Event Works

The Colossal Flower event is structured in three stages. At each stage, you can either extract nectar to gain gold and walk away, or reach deeper into the flower by sacrificing HP to unlock better rewards.

The event is designed as a risk-versus-reward gamble. If your HP is healthy, you can walk away with a huge pile of gold and a powerful relic. If you push too far with low health, you might end your run early.

Pollinous Core Relic

Pollinous Core

Every 4 turns, draw 2 additional cards.

This relic provides consistent card draw throughout combat, making it perfect for decks that cycle through cards quickly. However, it suits almost any deck if you can afford the 18 HP sacrifice.

If you can afford to lose 18 HP to reach the center of the flower and take the Pollinous Core relic, it's well worth doing so. The consistent card draw can be game-changing, especially in longer fights.

The event appears in Act 2, so you might not always be in a position to take the hit. However, if your HP pool is comfortable, the relic's value far outweighs the cost.

Decision-Making Guide

Push to the Center When:

  • • You have 50+ HP remaining
  • • You're early in Act 2 with rest sites ahead
  • • Your deck benefits from card draw
  • • You have healing relics or potions
  • • No dangerous elite fights immediately ahead

Stop Early When:

  • • You have less than 40 HP
  • • Dangerous elite or boss fight coming up
  • • You lack healing options
  • • Your deck doesn't benefit much from draw
  • • You need gold for immediate shop purchases

Gold vs Relic Analysis

Stage 1 (35 Gold): Almost never worth stopping here unless you're at critical HP. The gold is minimal.

Stage 2 (75 Gold): Reasonable stopping point if you're low on HP and need gold for an upcoming shop. Total cost: 5 HP.

Stage 3 (135 Gold): Good gold amount, but if you've come this far (11 HP spent), the relic is usually worth the extra 7 HP.

Center (Pollinous Core): Best value if you can afford it. The relic's long-term benefit outweighs 135 gold in most runs.

Best Classes for This Event

Ironclad

High HP pool and self-healing cards make Ironclad the safest class to push for the center. Pollinous Core synergizes well with exhaust builds that need consistent card draw.

Silent

Silent benefits greatly from card draw for Shiv and Sly builds. However, lower HP pool means you need to be more careful about timing.

Defect

Defect's orb-focused builds don't rely as heavily on card draw, but Pollinous Core still provides value for turn-extension strategies.

Regent & Necrobinder

Both new classes benefit from card draw. Regent's Forge mechanic and Necrobinder's Doom stacking both appreciate having more cards to work with each turn.

FAQ

What happens if you keep going deeper in Colossal Flower?

You lose increasing amounts of HP (5, then 6, then 7) but gain larger gold rewards at each stage. The final stage allows you to obtain the Pollinous Core relic.

How much gold can you get from Colossal Flower?

The event can reward 35 gold (Stage 1), 75 gold (Stage 2), or 135 gold (Stage 3) depending on how deep you go before extracting nectar.

Is Colossal Flower worth doing?

Usually yes, if you have enough HP. The gold and relic rewards can provide a strong advantage later in the run. If you have 50+ HP, pushing to the center for Pollinous Core is almost always worth it.

When does Colossal Flower appear?

The Colossal Flower event appears in Act 2 as a random event encounter (question mark rooms on the map).
